General candidate questions

Do I have to wait for an advertisement to apply?

No, you can apply online at any time through our website. Go to the candidate register section.

Do you find work in the oil & gas industry?

We recruit almost exclusively for the mining industry. We do some limited placements for office-based staff in the Administration/Secretarial/Clerical/HR/Commercial areas for Oil/Gas companies but that is all.

What is the best way to register with MPi?

Through our website, either via a specific position that appeals to you or as a general registration.

When you have completed the online application process, your resume is stored on our database. This database is regularly searched as new positions become available. However, we do not keep every applicant's resume on our database.

Should you not meet the minimum requirements then we may not be able to help you. We will write and tell you if this is the case.

What is the preferred application method?

We prefer you to apply via our website and attach an electronic resume. If you don’t have access to a computer then facsimile or post is fine.

If I apply for a position but do not get called for an interview, will I be contacted?

If you have put in your application for a particular position we would call you for the following reasons:

  • To determine if you are still interested in the role.
  • To gain more information about your background in relation to the role.
  • To bring to your attention other similar roles that might suit you.
  • To request that you come in for a face to face interview.

If you are not contacted by phone then you have been unsuccessful on that occasion and we will advise you, by way of a letter, either by post or email within two weeks of your application. We do this every time. If you DON’T hear from us within this time frame, then this is a breach of the “MPi Promise” in which case we would encourage you to contact us.

What are the minimum requirements to become registered on your database?

Our minimum requirements are usually:

  • To have the skills and experience requested in any advertisement on our website or,
  • To have job experience in any position within the mining industry or,
  • To have achieved a qualification directly pertaining to the mining industry.

What does the recruitment process involve?

MPi has a thorough process to fit the best possible candidate into a role. It involves the collection and shortlisting of applications, telephone interview and reference checks. Sometimes face to face interviews, psychometric and ability assessment, pre-employment medicals and site visits may also be required.

What happens to my details if I am not successful?

If your application is not successful, we will review your resume to ascertain if we can find you work in the future. If we can, we will retain your details on our database and consider you for future opportunities. After we have resolved that you were not successful on a particular occasion we would always advise you of this. This should happen within two weeks of your application and we would encourage you to contact us and let us know if that does not occur. You can also apply at any time for other positions. Remember to contact us with any change of contact or employment details.

If we feel that we are unlikely to be able to help you in the future, then we will also advise you of this by mail or email within two weeks.

We can also provide advice on how to gain employment within the mining industry – please look at  ”How to get a start in the mining industry “.
