The team at Mining People includes individuals experienced in fly in/fly out (FIFO) and residential mining roles. We’re aware of the challenges and issues that can result from working away from home for extended periods or working long hours. These can include physical and mental health, sleep and fatigue and family and relationship issues.

Below are several resources and contact details that can assist individuals with managing the mining lifestyle, whether you are in a FIFO or residential role.

  • R U OK? - R U OK’s mission is to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect and check in with people around them.

  • Act Belong Commit - Act-Belong-Commit is a comprehensive health promotion campaign that encourages individuals to take action to protect and promote their own mental wellbeing and encourages organisations that provide mentally health activities to promote participation in those activities. Being active having a sense of belonging and having a purpose in life all contribute to happiness and good mental health.

  • This FIFO Life - This is a site telling the stories and experiences of people in FIFO that was set up by the Government of Western Australia’s Mental Health Commission.

  • FIFO Families - FIFO Families’ mission is to assist transient and long-distance commute workers and their partners and families to build strong relationships, grow healthy local communities and to help navigate a successful working away lifestyle.

  • FIFO Facts - An initiative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the site provides information to people considering FIFO and support to those in FIFO roles
