One of the great advantages of a FIFO lifestyle is ample opportunity to wine and dine in your time off. But don't get stuck in the habit of taking your wife, husband, girlfriend or boyfriend to a familiar haunt - change it a bit and try something new.

A Menu De Degustation which is more commonly shortened to Degustation is an extensive sampling of smaller potions of dishes of the Chef’s choosing. Chef’s are essentially artists and a Degustation gives them the chance to highlight their talent and creativity.

Whilst the portions are smaller the number of courses is usually somewhere between seven and fifteen. It is a wonderful option if you are looking to sample a broad range of dishes that the restaurant has to offer, with the added bonus of the burden of deciding what to order!

Some basic rules are usually applied to a well-conceived Degustation: the early dishes should not be too rich as to overpower subsequent dishes. It is also important to ensure the diner is not left wanting after each course yet not being over-full at the completion of the Degustation.

Many restaurants will also offer a Wine Degustation along with your meal, where the Sommelier will partner wines with each course.

It is an experience where you must put your trust in the hands of the experts: the Chef, the Sommelier and the wait staff. It is great for the adventurous and lovers of new experiences.

A growing number of dining venues in WA offer a Degustation menu. If you think you would like to broaden your taste horizons, why not consider one of them for your next dining adventure.
