It is estimated that up to 5 million jobs are likely to be automated by 2030 according to Australia’s Future Workforce Report released in June 2015. The jobs to be automated will most likely be the ones that involve low levels of social interaction, creativity, mobility or dexterity.

It doesn’t mean 5 Million people will be effectively unemployed as new jobs will be created in the same time, some of which have not even been thought of yet. In the Australian census this year, there were dozens of roles listed that were not in the previous census of 4 years ago. So imagine what will occur in 15 years?

The impact of automation and computerisation has already been felt in manufacturing and mining, with some of you having already been impacted by automation, particularly mobile equipment operators. But what about other areas in mining?
